Parents and citizens news

Introduction to your P & C:

President:                    Russell Butler

Secretary:                    Caroline Thornton

Treasurer:                   Angela McKinlay

Assist Treasurer:         Julianne Hetherington

Committee:                 Elva, Aaron Fowler,

At the Tangara P & C Annual General Meeting held earlier this year, newly elected President Russell Butler, thanked parents, supporters and sponsors for their contribution to Tangara School over many years.

Russell paid tribute to Angus Campbell-Jones, the retiring P & C President, for 18 years of outstanding service, commitment and contribution to the Tangara School P & C.

When Angus got involved all those years ago, he was ably assisted by Angela McKinlay, who worked with him for 18 years and today is still the Treasurer / Coordinator of the P & C.

18 years ago Angus and Angela set a goal to raise funds to purchase a bus for Tangara School transport. A difficult goal with personal assets used as funding guarantee.

At the time of Angus’ retirement from the P & C, the Tangara P & C had a fleet of 2 buses and a car, with a 3rd bus having recently been sold due to lack of requirement. These vehicles are not only used to transport children to/from school they are also available for the school to use for excursions, etc with all costs paid by the P & C.

The P & C also contribute with funding for many different school activities, including sponsoring the music teacher.

The role of the P & C (Education Act)

To assist in understanding the role of the P & C some of the key aims are to promote the interest of the school through:

• Bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation;

• Assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and promoting the

 recreation and welfare of the students at the school;

• Give parents an opportunity to learn about the school policies and programmes so parents can share in shaping and developing school policies

• Provide a forum for parents to share information and views

An invitation is extended to any parents or citizens who wish to join the Tangara P & C to contact Angela McKinlay. Involvement on the P & C is not an onerous task and whilst it may not be easy for members to always attend P & C meetings their involvement is important and attendance whenever possible is appreciated.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions P & C meeting dates for the remainder of 2021 are subject to change however there will be 4 meetings scheduled for 2022 and hopefully we will be able to advise those dates early in 2022 for anyone interested in attending a P & C meeting.
