Inspire – High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
We strive to ensure all students can and will learn to their potential, and we continually endeavour to improve learning and engagement in literacy, communication and numeracy. Our teachers are dedicated to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted learners at every level, ensuring every student thrives.
Every student in every classroom requires need-based planning. Proactive and collaborative approaches in recognising student diversity enables engagement and growth.
In the classroom, and in collaboration with families during planning meetings, we identify individual learning needs and use evidence-based teaching strategies to challenge and extend student learning.
At Tangara School we recognise that every student is unique, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths beyond the classroom.
Our School Commitment
At Tangara School we are committed to providing an inclusive education in which the wellbeing of every member of our community is supported and valued. Empowering all students through collaboration, communication and individualised learning to reach their potential and expand their opportunities in life.
We focus on developing high potential across four key domains: creative, intellectual, physical, and social-emotional. Department of Education Statement
The Department of Education recognises that all students should be known, valued and cared for. Every child should be given the opportunity to be engaged and challenged at school so they can grow. When schools focus on high expectations, a whole school learning culture which appreciates quality learning is created and all students benefit.
Students with high potential are found in all schools and from all backgrounds. Curriculum for students with high potential builds on a quality curriculum for all students.
By targeting students’ individual needs, learning can be grouped in useful ways (called differentiation), and all students benefit. Schools implementing talent development programs across different areas of potential can capitalise on the variety of student interests, improving student engagement across the school.
Providing a range of opportunities, particularly in the early years, enables more students to develop their abilities.
